Information (English)

The choir NEUE WIENER STIMMEN (translates to “New Viennese Voices“) conducted by Christoph Wigelbeyer rehearses weekly in order to get to know and perfect a diverse musical program. Additionally, every singer enjoys vocal training on a regular basis. The singers ranging from the age of 16 to 26 come from different parts of Austria, as well as from other countries. What connects them is the love and enjoyment of music and singing. This leads to the quality and joy onstage that the audiences know and love.

The choir was founded in 2010 by Jürgen Partaj and Johannes Hiemetsberger in cooperation with Jeunesse Austria. Concerts in and also outside Vienna took place for example in Wiener Konzerthaus ,Wiener Musikverein, MuTh, Wien Museum and Semper Depot. The choir has performed at several events like the Wiener Stadtfest, Day of Jeunesse in Museumsquartier, Opening Ceremony for the Festival of the Districts and Karlsday. Since the choir cooperates with organisations such as Caritas Austria, the singers have met refugees as well as pensioner, with whom they sang and played music. Finally, meeting choirs from all over the world has made an impact on the cosmopolitan diversity of NEUE WIENER STIMMEN.

In 2013, the choir’s first CD was released by “Jeunesse Records”. One can listen to the live recorded version of the Missa Criolla composed by Ariel Ramírez as well as international Christmas songs.

The highlights of the past few years include Hollywood in Vienna from 2012 to 2016, the opening ceremony of the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in the Vienna Stephansdom with more than 1.000 young adults from all over the world. Additionally, the choir performed at the Life Ball in 2014 and 2015 and took part in the concert Best of John Williams in February and December 2016. Other highlights include performances in the Schauspielhaus Wien, as well as offering a musical opening to TEDxVienna.

In 2016, NEUE WIENER STIMMEN presented a concert named “Österreich: Große Töchter, große Söhne!” (translated into “Austria: Great Daughters, Great Sons!”) which dealt with traditional as well as modern music from and about Austria. The diverse program consisted of pieces from many different musical periods and styles and was well received by the audience. Singers themselves offered ideas for the program, which helped to broaden the choir’s horizon to songs from all over Austria, getting to know its traditions, history and future. These achievements earned us the award for „Choir of the Year 2016“ by Chorforum Wien.

In the season 2016/17, the choir performed Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man – A MASS FOR PEACE” together with the Upper Austrian Landesjugendchor and the Sinfonieorchester der Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien. In Spring 2017, the choir is participating in two productions at Theater an der Wien, and will be presenting a concert on Pop, Rock, Soul and Jazz. Finally, in the fall of 2017 concerts in cooperation with the LISZT FESTIVAL RAIDING are planned.

The team of NEUE WIENER STIMMEN consists of Christoph Wigelbeyer, Jürgen Partaj, Helmut Simmer, Elisabeth Sturm, Flora Königsberger, as well as the work and passion of every single voice in the choir.

NEUE WIENER STIMMEN is supported by the Austrian Bundeskanzleramt (BKA Kunstsektion) as well as the Austrian Volksliedwerk (Inter_Folk2) and cooperates with Jeunesse, Musisches Zentrum Wien, wienXtra, the Viennese Jugendzentrum and Hunger auf Kunst und Kultur.
